Are humans good? If humans are good, why are there so many evil things happening in our world? If humans are evil, how do they become evil? This's really a tough question to answer. Perhaps normal people would say some people are good and some are evil, but I would say they were supposed to be good but now are evil and become more and more evil. Most Christians, like me, believe that the snake, Satan tempted Eve, who was then the ancestor of humans, to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge. After Eve ate the fruit, she also gave Adam the fruit. In the end, God discovered their sins and had to take them out of the Garden of Eden because God is holy and can't be close to sinners. Sins were passed down to their descendants, which is how humans become more and more evil. Anyway, this explained why humans are evil in one way.
In the long history of human civilization, so many people have thought about this recondite question, such as Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau. Of these philosophers, there are two factions that are optimistic faction and pessimistic faction. Hobbes is one of the typical philosophers who have pessimistic opinion about human's nature. He thinks that humans are just born evil and controlled by three desires, food, sex and safety, with which I agree. Yes, humans will do anything to fulfill these desires! If there is not a law to control humans, this whole society will certainly be in chaos. The most typical example is people's action during wars when a society has no rules. People fight violently to have enough food, safety or even sex. Do they really learn to kill others in some places? Most of them are apparently not. Even little kids in kindergarten lie to each other, how can we not say that humans are evil? These things are happening right now in our world because of decreation, which highlights how humans go against God's command. Locke and Rousseau, who are the typical representatives of the optimistic faction, have optimistic opinions about human nature. They may not agree with me because they think that people are born empty and influenced by the experience after they are born.
However, no matter humans are either born evil or born empty, Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau all think that people become more and more evil day after day at present. Bob Dylan, who is an American singer-songwriter and musician, has been a major figure in the field of music for five decades. What he always criticize is the inequality and wars going on in our world. His "master of war" clearly expressed his anger towards those who start wars and enjoyed the profit brought by wars. People are just angry about the evil things others have done, but not doing anything about it, even doing exactly the same thing in daily life. Such things happened a lot in communist country where people don't have some effective public power to supervise the government. Some government officials exclaim to prevent the serious corruption in the government monthly meeting, but still accept bribes when they are working. They may think that since others corrupt, they might as well try a little bit, which is also why people are getting more and more evil.
As a Christian, we believe, Humans are evil by their original sins. What we need to do is, by the guide of the holy spirit, always keep ourselves from sinning as much as possible and establish a good model for the sinners to become God's people again.
